OPPORTUNITIES

Trustee to lead on marketing activities

We have undertaken a sustained promotional campaign involving networking with other charities, care and residential homes, and statutory bodies, exhibiting at events targeted on the elderly and giving demos and presentations to local community groups. This has led to significantly increased number of listeners. This has been backed up with a modern website, attractive promotional leaflets and posters and other marketing collateral. We have also been successful in bidding for funds for capital expenditure and in receiving some substantial donations so we are also in a good position financially.

The new Trustee will maintain these activities and build on them to take the next major step forward in our development.

This role needs a proactive person with a marketing/sales background, comfortable networking with a variety of organisations and people, good at presenting to small/medium sized groups. Most of the activities are in working hours so might well suit somebody recently retired or otherwise with time available during the day. You can learn more about what we do on our website and listen to this and last week's recordings there.

Contact us for a chat about what's involved.

Recordist

It is likely that one of our Recordists may retire later this year so we will need to find a replacement for this key role. The role doesn’t need a techie but rather somebody who is comfortable in using technology. Recordists are at the studio at about 6pm on Friday evenings to oversee the recordings and upload them, so usually finish around 8.30pm. Full training will be provided, and the recordists support each other with issues and ideas. Could you be the one for this role or do you know anybody who might fit the bill?

Media Copyist

Become a valuable member of one of the teams that brings the local news to blind and visually impaired people who otherwise are cut off from this regular local information.

South Bucks Talking News are looking for new Media Copyists to join our committed team of volunteers.

Every Saturday Morning, our Media Copyists (usually 2 at a time) copy our weekly audio recordings made at the studio on Friday evening onto USB message sticks using copying machines that can copy many USB sticks at a time. They then put the USB sticks into addressed plastic pouches and take them to the local Post Office to meet the last posting time for 1st class post so that our listeners get them promptly early the next week.

You need to be a well organised person who is comfortable using simple technology. Everything that is required can be learned easily.

Try it out for a few months and - if you like it - become a valuable member of one of the teams that brings the local news to blind and visually impaired people who otherwise are cut off from this regular local information.

Listener Visitor

High Wycombe area We are also looking for a new Visitor for Wycombe and surrounding villages. Visitors are the face of the charity to new listeners, going to their homes to demonstrate the service, usually with a friend or carer present, and showing them how to use the USB player and return the stick in the pouch. Visitors need to be confident and empathetic with listeners, who have differing capabilities. Our policy is that all Visitors should have a DBS check as many listeners are considered vulnerable adults, but we will organise this for you. This is a really important role in the charity and a very rewarding one so please contact us to find out more for yourself or someone you know.
